“In every cell of out body there burns a fire. ” – Frater Fes

Agni (Sanskrit for “fire”) is a subtle prancing force that is probably the most important in Ayurveda. It represents digestion and fiery cleansing. Like most flames that we harness, Agni needs a lot of attention. The correct balance of these energies can let to better health, reduced stress and a calm mind.

We ignite Agni to warm the body and stoke it to prepare for a deeper exploration of the practice in several ways, including:

  • Ujjayi Pranayama
  • Kapalabhati Pranayama
  • Cat / Cows
  • Surya Namaskara
  • Adho Mukha Svanasana
  • Flow from Phalakasana to UMS to AMS
  • I intend on delving into each of these techniques in their own article.
  • In Ayurveda the key to good health is having a well balanced Agni. Effective digestion leads to every tissue and organ in the body receiving the correct nourishment and elimination of wastes.
